If children have no opportunities for schooling, they will become the group of people hated and not accepted by the society. The children can become good citizens only if they have the opportunities to be educated and develop themselves. For this very reason, PJJ has initiated the fund raising activity to help poor children with no access to education. This activity will play a key role in contributing to the reduced incidents of offenses being committed by children as well.

Please Never Turn a Blind Eye to the Misery of the Child!

Should you wish to contribute to solving these problems, PJJ welcomes your donation to help Cambodian out of illiteracy and to prevent them from getting into conflict with the law in the future.

Sending Poor Children to School

Poverty and lack of education cause most of Cambodian children to be vulnerable to abuses and sexual trafficking, and they can become offenders as well. If no proper actions to send them to school are in place, the future of these children will not be different from what one can see right now. Both illiteracy and poverty are one of the main factors contributing young girls being cheated and turned into prostitutions when they are desperate for jobs. Meanwhile, boys intending to make money so as to support their families will not be able to avoid committing offenses because they do not deeply understand about society and the law as they are gullible and inexperienced. In addition, they are not aware that their act is illegal because they are obsessed with the job opportunity. Having seen the pressing issues, PJJ has initiated the fund raising activity to collect money from generous people and potential donors. The collected money will be used to support the poor families and convince them to send their children to school. The PJJ’s social worker goes to the specified locations to conduct investigation in order to collect information regarding the poor children whose parents cannot afford to send them to school. PJJ provides them every month with such stationeries as pens, note books, text books, pencils, rulers, bags, student’s uniforms and money due to the project.

Follow up the condition of poor children to check if they need other services or not. For those problems not in line with policy, PJJ will contact NGO partners for supports.

Seeking Recovery Center for Children

For the victimized girls, after they have been provided with legal representation by PJJ lawyers, PJJ social worker will cooperate with health centers or district hospitals to give the children medical services (the cost/expenses pertaining to the medical expenses are covered by PJJ). The children will be given the forensic medical examinations at hospital. In case of the serious and long-term illness, PJJ will send the children to be taken care of at private hospitals.

Upon the recovery of the children from the illness, PJJ will find the rehabilitation centers of the NGO partners for them.

PJJ provides the support for informal education of vocational trainings to the children such as sewing, hairdressing and embellishment.

Regarding the children not intending to further stay in the center, PJJ will send them to live with their parents. Moreover, PJJ will take care of them and provide medical, vocational training services.

During the vocational training course, PJJ has close relationship with provincial education department to reintegrate those children into education system, allowing them to pursue their schooling.

When the children finish their specialized skills, they also intend to do their own business. In this regard, PJJ will provide a small scale fund to enable them to run their own business as they wish. The fund sponsored by PJJ is periodic from 1 year till 5 years.

All the children to be provided with the social services by PJJ will have to sign a legal contract. The social services experts of PJJ will regularly monitor the use of project fund by the children in order to check the process of their business and provide further advice where needed.

Accused children and convicted juveniles shall receive care, medical treatment and health check regularly.

PJJ has doctors based in the some provincial prisons in order to take care of the child prisoners.

In case of the serious illness, PJJ will cover the cost of medicine and medical services for them during their stay at the public or private hospitals.

PJJ provides daily utilities such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, mats, mosquito nets, pillows, and sport equipments like basketballs, football balls and so on.

PJJ provides the vocational training course such as carpentry, crafting and skilled painting to the children.

PJJ provides the non vocational training like arithmetics and literacy in prisons.

If no attention is paid to child victims and children in conflict with the law, they will feel left behind and not cared for by the society. No one is perfect; human beings make mistakes through all their actions in life. The thing is that some mistakes are serious and others are not. Yet if one realizes his/her mistakes and intends to become a good person once again, it will be a good thing the society expects.
